- Bring your own keys (BYOK) - plug in Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, and similar accounts. Your compute, your bill, your rate limits.
- Workspace-scoped secrets - teams can use org keys without every person managing their own billing.
On the roadmap (path, not shipped)
- Bring your own endpoint - point Maater at private or self-hosted inference.
- Self-host / on-premises - run the stack on your own hardware or private cloud when policy requires it.
- Own your algorithm - legible soul rules for how agents prioritize work, with human approval for changes.
Why this matters for agencies and regulated teams
Knowledge work increasingly runs through AI. If that AI only lives inside a vendor's black box, you lose portability, auditability, and negotiating power. Maater keeps your matter - documents, provenance, and team context - as the durable layer, and treats models as interchangeable electricity.
Cloud-first today keeps pilots moving. On-premises remains an explicit direction, not a marketing afterthought. We say path when it is not shipped yet.
What we will not claim
- That full self-host is production-ready before it is.
- That BYOK alone equals on-premises compliance.
- That "sovereignty" means you must run the servers yourself on day one.
