Getting started MCP

Connect MCP

Point Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, or Perplexity Computer at Maater so agents can search and edit the same documents you see in the web app. Sign in to app.maater.ai first.

What this is

Hosted MCP is a user login to Maater in your IDE. It does not replace workspace Connect (Basecamp, Drive, and similar still need Connect in Settings for each workspace that uses them).

Cursor

  1. Open Cursor Settings, then MCP.
  2. Add a server named flownotes-cloud with this config (bare url, no Authorization header):
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "flownotes-cloud": {
      "url": "https://flownotes-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}
  1. Save, then toggle the server off and on so Cursor can OAuth.
  2. Complete the browser sign-in. You should land back in Cursor with the server green.

The same snippet lives in Maater under Settings, Account. Prefer that copy button if you are already signed in.

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop does not accept a bare url. Use the mcp-remote bridge in claude_desktop_config.json (full path to npx if Claude cannot find NVM):

"flownotes-cloud": {
  "command": "npx",
  "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://flownotes-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp"]
}

Quit and reopen Claude Desktop after saving.

ChatGPT (including custom GPTs / Work)

ChatGPT talks to Maater as a remote connector (HTTPS), not a local config file. Paid plan required (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu). Free accounts cannot add custom MCP connectors.

  1. Sign in to app.maater.ai first.
  2. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps / Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Go to Settings, then Apps and Connectors (wording varies), and create a connector.
  4. Name it Maater. Server URL:
https://flownotes-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp
  1. Choose OAuth if offered. Complete the Maater sign-in in the browser.
  2. In a new chat, enable the Maater connector, then ask it to search or list recent docs.

Custom GPT caveat: some ChatGPT integrations work in the regular chat window and fail inside a custom GPT (Drew's Fathom case). If your daily driver is a custom GPT named Work, turn the Maater connector on in that GPT as well as in the main window. If tools do not appear, try the same prompt in a normal chat first so we can tell whether the GPT is the gap.

These ChatGPT steps are the public recipe; we have not yet QA'd them end-to-end on a Work GPT. If OAuth or the connector list looks different on your build, screenshot it and send feedback.

Perplexity Computer

Perplexity Computer is Perplexity's agent surface. Add Maater as a custom remote connector (same hosted URL as Cursor). This is separate from installing Perplexity's own outbound MCP into Cursor.

  1. Open perplexity.ai/account/connectors (web connectors, not only the macOS Desktop MCP pane).
  2. Click + Custom connector, then Remote.
  3. Name: Maater. MCP server URL:
https://flownotes-mcp-production.up.railway.app/mcp
  1. Transport: Streamable HTTP. Authentication: OAuth. Leave client id/secret blank if Perplexity can discover OAuth (dynamic client registration).
  2. Add, then complete the Maater sign-in when prompted.
  3. In Computer, ask it to search your Maater workspace (for example: recent notes, or a client folder).

If OAuth fails, say so. Do not paste a long-lived Maater token into Perplexity unless we have documented that path. Desktop-app MCP settings can differ from the web Connectors page; prefer the web Connectors flow first.

If it shows red or disconnected

Then connect workspace tools

After MCP is green, open Maater Settings and Connect the workspace extensions you need (for example Basecamp). MCP OAuth does not turn those on by itself.
